PHL generally peaceful on Pacquiao fight — PNP

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday announced that no untoward incident was recorded during the fight of Filipino boxing icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao against undefeated Chris Algieri at the Cotai Arena inside The Venetian Macao.

This was disclosed by Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, the head of Public Information Office (PIO) of PNP.

Mayor said that there were reported small incidents but isolated.

In a text message sent to Philippines News Agency (PNA), Mayor said the National Operations center crime incidents monitored during the Pacquiao-Algieri (period covered from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.) has recorded four crime incidents the following:

Shooting – 2
Stabbing – 1
Carnapping – 1
Vehicular Accident – 1

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Director General Alan LM Purisima and the entire police force also congratulates Rep. Manny Pacquiao for the win he brought in honor of the Filipino people, he said.

“In behalf of the officers, men and women of the PNP, the Chief PNP extends his congratulations to Cong. Manny Pacquiao on his win against Algeiri. His dedication to win will serve as an inspiration to all of us and the rest of our countrymen,” Mayor told the Philippines News Agency (PNA).

Pacquiao got unanimous decision victory on Sunday to retain his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title.

Pacquiao who knocked down the taller Algieri six times in the sixth, ninth and 10th round enroute to a convincing unanimous decision victory with two judges scoring 119-103 and the third judge having it 120-103.

It was Pacquiao’s 57th career victory with 38 stoppages against five losses and two draws while Algieri suffered his first loss in 29 career fights.

Pacquiao, 35, is not slowing down as he expressed his excitement to fight another undefeated American boxer — Floyd Mayweather Jr. (47-0).
