MANILA – Department of Health (DOH) Acting Secretary Janette Garin said that she will take full responsibility if her visit to Caballo Islands violated protocols coming from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP).

“If proven that my action was wrong and if proven that I placed the lives of the Filipino people in peril, then there’s no reason for me to stay as acting secretary of Health,” said Garin.

Garin and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Gregorio Pio Catapang received criticisms for not following the protocols of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when they paid a visit to the Filipino peacekeepers who were quarantined at Caballo Island.

The Acting Health Secretary stressed that there is no need for PPE given that the peacekeepers are not yet manifesting symptoms of Ebola virus disease.
