The David Pecaut Square opens its gates on August 23 and 24, to the taste of the Philippines. Dubbed Mabuhay Philippines, this year’s feature country program at the historic complex aims to draw thousands of visitors.

The area will be devoted to trade exhibits, booths, and performance stages highlighting Filipino creativity and industry, tourist attractions, performing arts and history. The theme this year is “Pagdiriwang” which means celebration, highlighting the six popular fiestas of the Philippines.

Canada is a leading trade partner of the Philippines. During the month of August, local Filipino-Canadian entrepreneurs introduce their products and services. Gastronomes will also be treated to the rich blend of Filipino cuisine with European and Southeast Asian influences.

Highlights of the event include performances by well-known Toronto groups like Fiesta Filipina Dance Troupe, Culture Philippines, Folklorico Dance Troupe and a parade of the six popular fiestas of the Philippines, Ati-Atihan, Sinulog, Dinagyang, MassKara, Hernones and Higantes. There will also be a musical ensemble and guest appearances by world-renowned artists plus a display of Filipino arts and paintings.

Mabuhay Philippines, led by Norma Carpio, will also raffle off one round-trip ticket to the Philippines sponsored by Korean Airline.
