MANILA—Following the Supreme Court’s (SC) decision to declare the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) as unconstitutional, detained Senator Jinggoy Estrada said government officials must be dismissed.

“I thank the Supreme Court for respecting and upholding the Congress’ exclusive power of the purse,” he said.

Adding that the controversial fund is not included in the General Appropriations Act,  Estrada supported SC’s ruling saying DAP on its face is “unconstitutional and has no basis.”

“Now that the highest court of the land said that the DAP is unconstitutional and illegal, heads must roll and budget officials must be held accountable,” Estrada said in a statement, which was also released through the senator’s official Twitter account.

Estrada was earlier reported to have revealed how senators were given additional funds during the Corona impeachment trial.

The Aquino administration, however denied the allegations saying that the funds were given in the form of bribes.

Aquino, also later on clarified that the funds came from DAP–a stimulus fund scheme which realigns funds from stalled projects to boost the economy.
