Megabus carrying 18 passengers catches fire on Thruway in western New York; no one injured
PORTLAND, N.Y.—State police say no one was injured after a Megabus blew a tire and caught fire while travelling on the Thruway in western New York.
Troopers say the bus was carrying 18 passengers when the fire started as it travelled in Interstate 90’s eastbound lanes around 7:45 a.m. Wednesday in the Chautauqua (shuh-TAW’-kwuh) County town of Portland, 45 miles southwest of Buffalo.
Police say all on board were able to get out of the bus unharmed before flames engulfed the vehicle.
One eastbound lane between exits 60 and 59 remained closed until shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday while crews removed the charred bus and cleared the scene.
Coach USA, the Paramus, New Jersey-based owner of Megabus, says the bus was headed from Cincinnati to Buffalo.
