MANILA – Some P30 million worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) was seized by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) from a Chinese national in a buy-bust operation in San Juan City on Wednesday.

CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong identified the arrested suspect as Kenny Chua Sy, 43, an alleged Hong Kong triad member.

Magalong said that after almost a month of close monitoring and surveillance, CIDG operatives headed by Senior Supt. John Guyguyon arrested Sy in a buy-bust operation at around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday following a transaction made with an undercover agent in Greenhills, San Juan City.

Confiscated from the suspect were re-sealable bags of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu placed inside a foil with a gross weight of 8 kilograms and an estimated street value of P30 million, Magalong said.

The suspect is currently detained in CIDG detention cell at the PNP Headquarters in Camp Crame and will be charged with violation of Sections 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
