Marcos considers joining the Duterte Cabinet

Currently, in the middle of his electoral protest for his defeat in the May 2016 elections against Vice President Leni Robredo, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said that he is now open to join the Duterte Cabinet.

In an interview, Marcos said that he would be proud, honored, and happy if would be invited to serve any position in the Duterte administration.

However, he showed no sign of letting go of his electoral protest. In the total tally of votes, it has been ruled that Robredo won by only 200,000 votes. He also said that him joining the Cabinet will not jeopardize his electoral protest in any way.

He also stated that he and the President haven’t talked for a few weeks which means that there are still no talks about an actual appointment.

The President said earlier that Marcos was not at all interested in taking any Cabinet post. However, as he dismissed Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Ismael Sueno yesterday, rumors started to resurface that Marcos could be the President’s bet for the post.

In an ambush interview, Marcos was asked about what he thought about Robredo’s possible impeachment.

“At the very least she was unpatriotic and disloyal to the Philippines but it is a matter of opinion whether she should be impeached,” he answered.

 In the event that the impeachment complaint against Robredo proceeds and she would be impeached, Marcos can take over the office. This is only possible if the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) would rule in favor of Marcos. As of the moment, Marcos is still calling for the PET to proceed with the collection of the election paraphernalia needed in order to proceed with the recount and additional investigation on his electoral complaint.
