TOKYO—South Korean prosecutors announced they would seek an arrest warrant for the country’s ex-president Park Geun-hye over the corruption probe that led to her impeachment, local media reported on Monday.

According to the Yonhap news agency, Park’s charges include bribery, abuse of power, coercion and leaking government secrets.

The corruption scandal involving Park and her friend and close associate Choi Soon-sil erupted in October 2016, leading to Park’s impeachment in December. Choi allegedly was meddling in state affairs, despite not holding any official post, and helping extort money from big corporations.

Earlier in March, the Constitutional court upheld the parliament’s decision to impeach Park. Early presidential election is scheduled to take place on May 9.

They were identified as Jerry Cabading alias “Tolox” and Francis Castro alias “Gorilla”, both of Barangay Agupalo Weste, Lupao, Nueva Ecija; and Gregorio Pena alias “Jun-Jun”, of Barangay Canaan East, Rizal, Nueva Ecija.

Recovered from the suspects were three handguns, a grenade and the PHP600,000 ransom money.

The recovered ransom will be returned to the victim while the firearms and explosives will form part of material evidence to be presented in court in the criminal case against the suspects.

The PNP AKG is now conducting pursuit operations against another leader of the group identified a Kikker Singh, who remains at-large.

The KFR syndicate is believed to be involved in eight other KFR cases, mostly involving Indian victims, in Pampanga, Bataan, Nueva Ecija and Metro Manila, including the kidnapping of Rakesh Kumar Sanny Singh in Nueva Ecija last May 2016.
