MANILA–An official of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has applauded the authorities particularly the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its immediate action against possible terrorist threats in the country.

“We commend our law enforcers for uncovering possible terrorist threats to our country. They’ve done their job effectively and let’s hope that they’ll continue to do so,” said Fr. Jerome Secillano, Executive Secretary of CBCP Public Affairs Committee (PAC).

At the same time, the Catholic priest asked the people to be calm and vigilant.

“The public needs to remain calm and not let fear overcome them. They have to be more vigilant though as they perform the Holy Week observances,” he said.

Secillano believed that such threats will not stop the faithful to do their spiritual activities.

“It has always been like that. There were always threats but Filipinos, despite such, were not deterred from doing their spiritual activities. I do believe that they’re even more inclined to pray to seek security from God,” he added.

On the other hand, Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo is letting the authorities to do their job as to the supposed threat.

“We do not cause alarm to the faithful. Let the police do its work while we continue to lead the people in their faith,” he said.

On Tuesday, PNP Chief Ronald dela Rosa admitted the presence of members of the lawless Maute Group in Metro Manila.

The local terrorist group is reportedly have links with the terror group Islamic State.
