KUALA LUMPUR–The Malaysian police said on Monday they have arrested seven suspects, including five Filipinos and one Malaysian immigration officer, in connection with the Islamic State (IS).

The first Filipino suspect, who has permanent residence in Malaysia, was found to have provided funds for Malaysian fugitives “Dr. Mahmud Ahmad” and Mohamad Joraimee Awang Raimee, who joined the IS in southern Philippines as recruiters for the terror group, said Khalid Abu Bakar, Inspector-General of the police in a statement.

Another two are believed to have assisted the transit of three Indonesian IS militants to southern Philippines via the Malaysian state of Sabah, said Khalid.

Dear Mr. Tarter – Thank you for reporting on the condition of the Rohingya in Burma. I appreciate you keeping this issue front and center. In media reporting, the Rohingya’s tragic suffering is often portrayed as communal violence when in reality, they are the victims of a persecution. Identifying the situation in Burma correctly is very helpful. Unfortunately, there is no evidence that any Rohingya has ever participated in terrorism. furthermore not all terrorism is Islamic-based; the perpetrators of genocide in Burma are Buddhist. thx
