MANILA–The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has towed almost 300 vehicles during last week’s anti-illegal parking operations in Metro Manila.

In a statement, the MMDA said that its personnel were able to impound 294 illegally parked vehicles from Scouts Borromeo, Bayoran, and Tobias; Panay Avenue, Sgt. Esguerra, Mother Ignacia Avenue and Eugenio Lopez Drive in Quezon City while 240 tickets for illegal parking violation were issued from March 6 to 10.

Road obstructions were also cleared along the Mabuhay Lane #1 which traverses the cities of San Juan, Mandaluyong and Makati, particularly Brgy. San Isidro in Makati, and barangays 141, 142, 143 and 147 in the Pasay-Taft area.

The intensified anti-illegal parking operations last week also yielded a total of 21 tricycles which were turned over to the Quezon City Tricycle Regulatory Unit as part of its campaign against illegal terminals.

The agency has been conducting its clearing operations along the Mabuhay Lanes in order that motorists may use them as alternate routes to EDSA during rush hour.

“This way the motoring public would have an unimpeded travel to their destinations in Makati and Manila via the Mabuhay Lanes,” MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos said.

Meanwhile, 8,323 erring motorists were cited for various traffic violations via the agency’s No Contact Apprehension system in the whole month of February this year. It has also apprehended a total of 1,871 motorists from March 1 to 10.

According to Orbos, the no contact apprehension scheme complements the lack of MMDA enforcers as traffic violations are recorded through CCTV cameras that are installed along the roads of Metro Manila.
