Energy dept wants gas stations to be ready for e-vehicles
MANILA—The energy department is exploring the possibility of integrating electric vehicle charging areas in gasoline stations.
According to a news release issued Friday, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said that in preparation for the booming e-vehicle industry, he has instructed his department’s Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB) and Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB) to issue policies on the development of infrastructure that would service e-vehicles, such as charging areas in gas stations.
“Apart from readying electric vehicle infrastructure, we also want to strengthen our gasoline stations’ consumer welfare and satisfaction through well-maintained and functional amenities within its premises,” Cusi said, adding that the department is drafting a policy on improving gas stations’ parking areas, comfort rooms, CCTVs and convenience stores.
