PNP-CLS can now identify groups behind EJK/DUI
MANILA –The Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Service (PNP-CLS) can now identify the groups behind the cases of extrajudicial killings/death under investigation (EJK/DUI) at the height of the “Oplan Double Barrel”.
PNP-CLS deputy director for administration Senior Supt. Ligaya Sim, in a press conference in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Tuesday, said based on their initial ballistics examination, some of the specimens had “probable hits” in the result when compared to their database in a group.
Sim said this means the guns used and the bullets which killed in some cases of DUI/EJK jibed in their database.
However, she said, there is still a need for manual examination of the specimens to make sure of the result.
After the computer database comparison, the PNP-CLS would still conduct an examination manually.
The “confirmatory test” would still take time because each specimen check would require a week to be examined.
In fact, Sim said, based on their experience in 2012, it also took them 2-3 years before they became sure of the result that the bullets, which killed in 90 cases of DUI, came from only one group.
