MANILA – The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that as 4 a.m. on Monday, it has provided PHP194,150 worth of relief assistance to 2,184 families displaced by Tropical Cyclone Auring in the Caraga region who are staying in 55 evacuation centers.

In its relief operation update, the department said ‘Auring’ has affected a total of 2,612 families or 11,066 persons in 52 barangays.

Meanwhile, Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo appealed to residents along ‘Auring’s’ path to heed their local government leaders’ call for preemptive evacuation to attain zero casualty, especially if they are living in low-lying and mountainous areas prone to flash floods and landslides.

“Please do not ignore the announcement of your local authorities,” Taguiwalo said, noting that preparation is the key to any emergency situation.

According to the state weather bureau PAGASA, ‘Auring’ has weakened into a low-pressure area but is still expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the Bicol region and Samar. Residents of these areas have been alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.
