Presumptive President-elect Duterte to receive well-wishers in Davao on Monday
DAVAO CITY—Presumptive President-elect and Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will formally receive well-wishers at the privately-owned clubhouse of Matina Enclaves residential condominium here on Monday.
Those scheduled to have audience with him are only well-wishers who have made appointments with the mayor through his executive assistant, Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
Duterte will also meet the press in the afternoon.
Duterte has kept himself away from the public eye after the election day on May 9.
Go earlier said the mayor was resting because of fatigue after a grueling three-month national campaign. It was also the time for him to spend with his family lat week.
Since the results of the election came out showing Duterte with a huge lead in the presidential race, many people, not only Davaoeños, have visited his house in Doña Luisa subdivision here, hoping for a photo opportunity.
Peter Laviña, spokesperson of the Duterte camp, said he was not sure if the mayor would be meeting the public. He said Monday has been set for those who have scheduled ahead.
They are expected to be members of the diplomatic community based in Davao, business groups and local leaders.
Laviña said it is only Go who has the list of the appointments. He, however, advised the press to be aware of the tight security in the area since it is a private property.
It was learned that some Presidential Security Guards (PSG) have been in Davao City to arrange security protocols.
The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has beefed up the security of Duterte pending his proclamation and until the PSG takes over.
Police Regional Director Manuel Gaerlan said he has already directed the DCPO Director and the Regional Public Safety Battalion to increase their level of alertness and provide additional security for Duterte.
