MANILA – Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas on Monday said that the Sandiganbayan’s conviction of partymate Nereus Acosta for graft is proof that justice under “Daang Matuwid” (straight path) is impartial to friend and foe alike.

“Hindi ko naman gustong gamitin ang kanyang pangalan, pero ito ang mga patunay na sa Daang Matuwid, hindi nakapiring ang hustisya.

Acosta, the Presidential adviser on environmental concerns and Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) general manager, has been sentenced to a maximum of 10 years of imprisonment by the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division after being found guilty of one count of graft in connection with the misuse of his pork barrel funds during his stint as Bukidnon congressman.

For his part, Acosta ruled out politics as a motive in his conviction despite being a member of the administration party.
