Daang Matuwid’s fight against corruption does not distinguish from friend or foe – Roxas

MANILA – Liberal Party (LP) standard bearer Mar Roxas on Monday said that the Sandiganbayan’s conviction of partymate Nereus Acosta for graft is proof that justice under “Daang Matuwid” (straight path) is impartial to friend and foe alike.

“Hindi ko naman gustong gamitin ang kanyang pangalan, pero ito ang mga patunay na sa Daang Matuwid, hindi nakapiring ang hustisya.

Ang ating laban kontra sa katiwalian, ang ating laban kontra sa korapsyon ay walang pinipili, at kung may kaso, inihahain sa korte, at ang korte ang nagpapasya. Ebidensya ang siyang nagpapasya kung guilty o hindi,” Roxas said in an ambush interview during his campaign sortie in Manila.

“Even if I haven’t seen the ruling itself, we respect the decision of the court,” the administration candidate said.

Acosta, the Presidential adviser on environmental concerns and Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) general manager, has been sentenced to a maximum of 10 years of imprisonment by the Sandiganbayan’s Fourth Division after being found guilty of one count of graft in connection with the misuse of his pork barrel funds during his stint as Bukidnon congressman.

For his part, Acosta ruled out politics as a motive in his conviction despite being a member of the administration party.
