MANILA – Malacañang on Thursday hopes for the sustained optimism of Filipinos during the Yuletide season based on the results of a Social Weather Station (SWS) survey for the last quarter of 2015.

Results of the survey, done early December, showed that seven of out 10 adult Filipinos expect a happy Christmas and 77 percent of the 1,200 respondents, the highest since 2003, believe that it is better to give than to receive.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda, in a statement, noted the return to the 70s level of the expectation of happiness, which declined to the 60s level from 2004-13.

“May this optimism energize and encourage all of us to truly serve our country and work together so that all Filipinos will experience peace, prosperity and contentment in the year to come,” he added.

Results of the survey showed that only 7 percent of the respondents expect to be sad this season while 20 percent do not expect themselves to be happy nor sad.

While most of the respondents consider that it is better to give than to receive, 20 percent believe that it is better to receive.

All the respondents, from Class A to E, also expect their Christmas to be happy.
