MANILA – After suffering an acid influx in the recent years, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid today disclosed that her voice has been slowly getting back to its old form.

“Thank God. My voice is returning to normal. I still have a tough time every so often, but it’s something I just have to manage. I’ve been singing more often these days too, so my voice gets used to the grind again,” Velasquez told reporters at a press conference, adding that she has also been regaining her confidence in singing once again.

‘Asia’s Songbird,’ who used to effortlessly reach stratospheric notes, often got frustrated when her voice starts to crack as she tries to sing high notes with the acid reflux irritating her throat.

“There are times when you think you’re doing well, but then your voice cracks and you can’t do anything about it. My confidence suffers as a result,” she said.

But trusting her capability as a singer, Velasquez continued to sing fearlessly – never mind flubbing a note.

“True enough, things got better when I wasn’t being too conscious. What will be, will be. Never mind if my voice cracks, eh di rocker ako (then I’m a rocker)! But of course, I always make sure to take care of my instrument,” she said, noting that she will continue singing while putting her acting career on hold.

“I want to maximize my voice since it’s better now and is cooperating with me!” she added.

The 45-year-old singer has been scheduled to hold two concerts at Solaire & Casino’s The Theatre on November 20 and 21. In here, she will be singing both foreign and local songs.

“Many songs here, I’ve never done before. So, I’m really going to prepare for this one,” she said.
