The Philippine Embassy in Mexico on March 29 celebrated Women’s Month with the theme “Juana, and Tatag Mo at Tatag Natin sa Pagbangon at Pagsulong”.  The event was held at the Bulwagang Apolinario Mabini at the embassy chancery.

The celebration commenced with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by Embassy officials and members of the Filipino community.   Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Catalino R. Dilem, Jr. in his welcome message extolled the women present for their dedication and  commitment to their chosen field of work and for their contribution to society.

Ms. Frances Huttanus, an esteemed American academician and philanthropist residing in Mexico City and a member of the board of trustees of the American School Foundation and the current Vice President of the American Benevolent Society gave a talk on women empowerment, rights of women and the contribution of women to the shaping not only of Philippine history but of world history as well.  After the talk, the participants shared their own personal experiences on the role women played in shaping their respective lives.

Ms. Angelita Florio, a well respected member of the Filipino community was honored during the celebration for her invaluable role in the pioneering stage of the American School in Mexico City and also for her countless contribution to the successful implementation of Embassy’s cultural diplomacy activities.

The program ended with  Ms. Bernadeth Ablay, the embassy’s locally hired receptionist leading those present in the singing of “I am Woman”, a song popularized by Helen Reddy.

A fellowship merienda of Filipino cuisine capped the well attended three-hour celebration.
