MANILA – Anakpawis party-list group members began marching as early as 7 a.m. from Commonwealth Avenue towards the Batasang Pambansa complex, Quezon City hours before President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III’s sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA).

The protesters, however, were unable to reach the Batasan complex as a barricade of policemen and container vans were already positioned before the Batasan Road.

The protesters then held a program in their site and voiced complaints towards Aquino’s administration. They also burnt an effigy of the President, which they labeled “Halimaw sa Palasyo” (Monster in the Palace).

Erwin Aguilon, from Radyo Inquirer, reported about the burning of Aquino’s effigy.

Other groups Bayan Muna, UP community and Hacienda Luisita farmers later on joined the rally.

Erika Sauler, also from Inquirer, reported about the UP community joining the protest.
