Escudero pledged to ensure constitutionality of BBL

MANILA — Senator Francis Escudero on Monday said that he and Senator Grace Poe will ensure the constitutionality of the draft Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL).

“We would like to assure the public that Senator Poe and I are one with the Filipino people in their aspiration for a just and lasting peace in Mindanao.”

He also clarified earlier reports of them saying that they are against the measure.

“We join them in every step in seeking solutions that will bring not only peace but also prosperity to all our brothers and sisters in the region,” he said.

Escudero said that they will not become obstructionists against the draft, instead, they will make sure that the bill will not violate the constitution.

“We will not allow any legislation that would go against the Constitution, which is the fundamental law of the land. We must follow the Constitution,” Escudero said.
