MANILA – With the K to 12 program fully implemented in the basic education program, the University of the Philippines (UP) initiated revising its admissions process and general education curriculum.

“The process has already started. We reviewed the admission process, including the design of the UPCAT (UP College Admission Test) because if we’re getting more mature students, then we really have to revise it,” UP president Alfredo Pascual said.

“This is part of the university’s goal of democratizing admission to the university,” he added, mentioning the UPCAT has been undergoing revision to be able to measure more of the student’s aptitude than achievements.

Pascual disclosed that changes in UP’s education curriculum had already started.

“There is a common understanding now that the GE program, which used to total 45 units will be reduced to 21 to 36 units depending on the degree program,” he said.
