Evidence vs UP frat men found
MANILA — The police said that a smartphone, found in the van used by five members of the Upsilon Sigma Phi who were arrested for the June 18 incident, may lead to identifying more members involved in the assault.
In report for the Philippine Daily Inquirer written by Erika Sauler, Supt. Richard Fiesta, commander of the Quezon City Police District’s Anonas Station said that the evidence will then be turned over to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group.
“It will be submitted to the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group to check its contents—whether they (two groups) communicated with each other, who are their contacts and if there was a plan to carry out the assault,” he said.
Aside from the smartphone, five lead pipes, a baseball bat, three shotgun rounds, a black ski mask and a bloodstained piece of tissue paper were also found in their van.
Four students from a rival group on the University of the Philippines, Diliman were assaulted by the attackers.
The arrested students include Cheran Cabrito, Elias Miles Villanueva, Rudolf Gene Karlo Neral, Rannie Mercado and Sean Rodriguez.
The students involved are currently under preventive suspension as the UP administration conducts its own investigation on the case.
