Mount Bulusan erupts twice within an hour
MANILA — Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon has erupted twice within an hour this morning, June 16.
The first eruption was recorded at around 11:02 a.m. (PH time), as stated by PHIVOLCS and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Bicol. It was characterized by a “phreatic” explosion or an ash explosion.
Roughly 18 minutes later, at around 11:20 a.
m., OCD recorded a second phreatic explosion.
As of posting, PHIVOLCS is still studying both eruptions. With OCD, they are surveying the area for possible damages. So far, no casualties were reported.
According to PHIVOLCS Senior Science Researcher Rudy Lacson, another eruption may occur anytime. He also noted that the volcanic activity is still within the normal range and so far there are no dangers of a magma flow occuring.
Residents and tourists are still advised to stay out of the 4-km danger zone as a safety precaution.
