President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has assured Filipinos that government agencies are preparing for the expected surge of travelers during the Undas long weekend, with measures in place to keep trips safe, orderly and convenient.
In a video message on Friday, October 30, Marcos said the Department of Transportation and its attached agencies were conducting inspections at airports, seaports and bus terminals to ensure passenger safety.
He also said urgent road repairs had been targeted for completion ahead of the holiday rush to help ease traffic congestion.
To accommodate the increase in commuters, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board issued more than 1,000 special permits for additional buses. The Maritime Industry Authority also authorized special permits and more flexible vessel schedules from October 29 to November 3, allowing additional trips on selected routes when needed.
At airports, immigration counters are expected to remain fully staffed from October 30 to November 3. Major transport terminals will also operate round-the-clock help desks to assist passengers.
In Metro Manila, more than 2,000 personnel from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will be deployed to manage traffic, particularly near cemeteries and other areas expected to draw large crowds.
Authorities are also conducting safety inspections at cemeteries, churches and public gathering places. Police personnel will be deployed to maintain order, while hospitals and emergency response teams have been placed on standby.
Marcos urged travelers to plan their trips ahead, arrive early at terminals and purchase tickets in advance whenever possible. He also reminded the public to observe cemetery regulations and exercise caution when bringing or lighting candles.
The President said the emergency hotline 911 remains available for those needing immediate assistance, while government agencies will continue issuing public advisories through their official channels.
The annual Undas observance draws millions of Filipinos to cemeteries and memorial parks to remember departed loved ones, with All Saints’ Day falling on November 1 and All Souls’ Day on November 2.
