Mayon Volcano erupted shortly before noon on Friday, October 30, prompting the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) to raise its alert status to Level 3.
The eruption was recorded at around 11:55 a.m., signaling increased volcanic activity after the agency had previously lowered the volcano’s status to Alert Level 2.
Camalig Mayor Carlos Irwin “Caloy” Baldo Jr. announced the escalation and urged residents to remain vigilant, stay away from the six-kilometer Permanent Danger Zone and avoid unnecessary travel outside their homes.
Residents were also advised to wear face masks when going outdoors and follow announcements from local authorities.
Under Alert Level 3, authorities warn of a heightened possibility of hazardous volcanic activity. Entry into the Permanent Danger Zone remains prohibited, while aircraft are advised to avoid flying close to the volcano.
PHIVOLCS has yet to release a detailed bulletin on Friday’s eruption, including the height of the ash plume and the extent of possible hazards to nearby communities.
The public is urged to monitor official advisories as authorities continue to assess Mayon’s activity.
