B.C – The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) Vancouver, together with OWWA Vancouver and partner organizations, recently conducted a series of workplace safety training sessions for overseas Filipino workers across British Columbia.
The initiative, held in partnership with the Western Workforce Skills Training Centre and the Philippine Bayanihan Centre, included Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) training in Vancouver and First Aid training sessions in Vancouver and Victoria.
During the WHMIS session, participants learned how to identify hazardous materials in the workplace, understand product labels and safety information, and follow proper precautions when handling or working near hazardous products.
The First Aid sessions, meanwhile, equipped migrant workers with practical knowledge and skills to respond to workplace injuries and medical emergencies.
MWO Vancouver said the training also supports the employability of participants, with the First Aid certification recognized across Canada and valid for three years.
The activities form part of the Department of Migrant Workers’ skills development and employability enhancement programs for OFWs.
By providing free access to recognized and certified training, MWO Vancouver aims to help Filipino migrant workers meet workplace standards in Canada while improving their preparedness for career growth and other employment opportunities.
