Classes and government work suspended in areas of Luzon as Tropical Storm Maymay moves across PAR

PHILIPPINES – As of an 8 a.m. report on August 6, Tropical Storm Maymay, internationally known as KUJIRA, is being monitored in the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) after it was located over Bangued in Abra.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), it has maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness up to 110 km/h, and a central pressure of 998 hPa. Maymay is currently moving eastward at 10 km/h.

Malacañang Executive Secretary Ralph Recto signed Memorandum Circular No. 22 on August 5, ordering the suspension of classes in the following provinces and areas:

Metro Manila
Ilocos Sur
La Union
Benguet
Pangasinan
Abra
Zambales
Kalinga
Mountain Province
Ifugao
Ilocos Norte
Apayao
Nueva Vizcaya
Tarlac
Nueva Ecija
Bataan
Pampanga
Bulacan
Rizal
Cavite
Batangas
Laguna
Occidental Mindoro

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also recommended the suspension of government work, which was stated in the memorandum.
