New LPA expected to become Kiyapo

PHILIPPINES – A new low pressure area (LPA) east of the Philippines is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on July 22.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), it may become a tropical depression named Kiyapo.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was around 1,200 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. PAGASA stated it could turn into a tropical storm to move across Northern Luzon on Friday or Saturday.

The LPA is also anticipated to enhance the southwest monsoon (Habagat), causing rains across the Philippines. The trough of the LPA and the Habagat may also bring rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol Region and Palawan, as well as in Visayas and Mindanao.

Moreover, moderate to heavy rain is predicted in parts of SOCCSKSARGEN, BARMM, Antique, Negros, Cagayan, Isabela, and a few Northern Luzon provinces until Friday. PAGASA stated that rainfall may become more intense in mountainous areas, with risks of flooding and landslides.
