CAIRO – On Sunday, Israeli strikes in the Gaza Strip killed at least six people, including a 9-year-old girl, as mediators continued talks to uphold a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
Palestinian health officials stated that Israeli gunfire hit a tent camp in the Al-Bureij refugee camp, killing 9-year-old Tala Abu Matar, an incident the Israeli military said it was not aware of.
Separately, an airstrike on a metal foundry in Gaza City killed four people.
Israel’s military claimed the site housed Hamas militants and weapons production, labeling it a ceasefire violation, while also reporting that two Hamas fighters were killed in northern Gaza since Thursday.
Later on Sunday, a strike on a tent encampment in Khan Younis killed at least one person and wounded several others, including children.
Israeli military did not give a comment after the incident.
The violence highlights ongoing tensions under the October 2025 ceasefire, which has seen more than 1,000 Palestinians and four Israeli soldiers killed since its implementation.
Hamas leaders are currently in Cairo discussing the second phase of the peace plan, which involves disarmament and Israeli troop withdrawals.
Hamas attributes the lack of progress to Israeli violations of the truce.
Meanwhile, nearly all of Gaza’s displaced population remains confined to a small coastal area, living in tents or damaged structures under Hamas control.
