PHILIPPINES – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has arranged administrative agencies to implement preemptive evacuations in high-risk locations as Super Typhoon Bavi nears the country, aiming to safeguard communities before critical weather conditions.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that all involved agencies are to adopt a whole-of-government method in preparation of the typhoon, including the immediate evacuation of people in vulnerable areas.
As of July 6, Bavi was located 2,120 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon, with maximal sustained winds of 205 kilometers per hour, gusts reaching 250 kph, and moving west-northwest at 20 kph.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported Bavi is anticipated in the Philippine Area of Responsibility around Tuesday night or Wednesday morning and will be then named Inday.
Even though no landfall is currently forecast, the administration reported that the storm may bring wind signals over northern and eastern Luzon, strong winds, rough seas, and amplified southwest monsoon rains impacting northern and western parts of the Philippines this week.
