CANADA – The Eurovision Song Contest, mostly commonly known as Eurovision, is an international song competition from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It has been running annually since 1956 (with the sole exception of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), with each participant submitting an original song representing its country.

Eurovision’s rules state that participation is open to countries with broadcasting organizations that are full members of the EBU. This year, after Eurovision suffered Spain, Netherlands, Iceland, Slovenia, and Ireland pulling out due to Israel’s continued participation, the CBC/Radio-Canada has recently become late June 2026 following the 96th General Assembly in Prague.

On Canada Day, July 1, the Canada Broadcasting Station announced their intent to join the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest, making it the first new country to join since Australia in 2015.

“Our participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, starting next year in Bulgaria, will allow Canadian talent to be showcased on one of the most storied music stages in the world,” said Marie-Philippe Bouchard, the president and CEO of CBC/Radio-Canada.

They are expected to compete in the semi-finals in Bulgaria by 2027.
