P790-M aid disbursed to 164K quake-hit families in Mindanao

MANILA – Assorted aid provided to the families affected by the June 8 magnitude 7.8 earthquake that rocked Maasim, Sarangani and nearby provinces has reached around PHP787.91million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Thursday.
In its latest situational update, the disaster response agency said the assistance has, so far, reached a total of 164,437 families from Region 9 (Zamboanga Peninsula), Region 11 (Davao Region) and Region 12 (Soccsksargen).
Of the total, around 4,038 families are from Region 9; 35,710 families from Region 12; and 124,689 families from Region 12.
“Figures are subject to change due to ongoing validations,” the NDRRMC said.
The agency also said “the number of families requiring assistance and the number of families assisted in some areas are still to be determined.”
Among the assistance provided are ready-to-eat foods, sleeping kits, water containers, hygiene kits, malongs (tube skirts), blankets, bottled water, family food packs, family tents and assorted drugs and medicines.
These items came from government agencies like the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health and the Office of Civil Defense, as well as private sector donors.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed quake-related deaths to date remain at 88; injured, 1,316; and missing, 24.
Affected families also remain at around 391,275, which is equivalent to 1,679,152 individuals residing in 627 villages in Regions 9, 11, 12, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
