GERMANY – Alex Eala and Venus Williams exit the quarterfinals of the Bad Homburg Open doubles event, losing 6-3, 6-2 to the second-seeded pair of Olivia Nicholls and Tereza Mihalíková.
After a strong start with a dominant opening-round win, the duo faced a tougher challenge against the Queen’s Club champions.
They couldn’t maintain their early 3-2 lead in the first set and eventually surrendering control as their opponents broke serve twice.
The second set offered little respite as Eala and Williams struggled and lost key points, allowing their opponents to build a commanding 5-1 lead.
Although Eala managed to earn a break in the seventh game to extend the match, Nicholls answered immediately with another break to seal the victory.
Mihalíková later acknowledged the unique pressure of facing a legend like Williams, noting that playing against such icons is a “once in a lifetime” experience that inevitably registers in a player’s mind.
With their Bad Homburg campaign concluded, both players now turn their attention to Wimbledon, which starts Monday.
Eala enters the tournament as the No. 29 seed in singles, while Williams is set to reunite with her sister Serena for the doubles event.
