MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte called the attention of the Office of the President (OP) on Wednesday over its “last-minute” issuance of travel authority for a supposed travel from April 23 to May 15.
Although she appreciated the OP’s approval, Duterte said she’ll be sending a new request soon since her plans have “changed due to uncertainty” of whether she’ll be permitted to depart.
“Please ensure that the necessary documents be processed and issued promptly, allowing sufficient time for travel preparations rather than only a few hours before the intended departure,” Duterte said in a statement.
According to the approval signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Tuesday, Duterte planned to travel to the Netherlands, South Korea, Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom, while on leave of absence and “at no cost to the government.”
The vice president’s coincidental request came amid the ongoing impeachment proceedings before the House Committee on Justice, determining the probable cause for the two cases filed against her.
Duterte has not yet appeared before the House panel since the hearings started in late March.
