Roxas honors late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo
MANILA — “He was one of the Liberal Party’s pillars of the Daang Matuwid, and was among those that proved to us that honest, consensus-driven governance was not only possible, but necessary to achieve our dreams as a nation. A stalwart of good governance, he led by example.”
Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II issued this statement to highlight the celebration of the 57th birth anniversary on Wednesday of the late DILG Chief Jesse Robredo.
Noting Robredo’s dedication and legacy in serving the people, Roxas stressed: “He was the first to clean the mud after the flood, to respond to a fire tragedy. He made sure money served the people.
He was always wary of the trappings of government, and lived with humility, simplicity, and the dignified confidence of the incorruptible.”
“Robredo remains an example and inspiration to reformists in government. Our efforts to sustain and amplify his good works in the DILG and the rest of the bureaucracy continue; we know he is watching and guiding us,” Roxas added.
Robredo died in a plane crash near the coast of Masbate province in 2012.
