‘No plate, no travel policy’ finally suspended

MANILA — The Land Transportation Office has finally suspended its controversial, “no plate, no travel policy,” following several hearings conducted at the Senate.

“I am happy they finally found a solution and that LTO met with car dealers and tried to solve the existing problems,” Cayetano told reporters. “Had they consulted the public first before implementing that policy, the problem wouldn’t be this big,” Senate Majority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano said.

He added that the Senate is acknowledging the agency’s move to finally find a solution that will effectively address the concerns of motorists.

It could be noted that Cayetano earlier criticized the agency’s rules implementing penalties to car owners violating the policy.

This, he added, is despite the fact that the fault is due to the agency’s delay in the issuance of plates for new vehicles.

“The public should not in any way be burdened by what is clearly a product of the LTO’s and the plate contractor’s failure to deliver and process plates on new vehicles,” he said.
