POEA warns Filipino workers against direct-hiring
MANILA — The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) warned Filipino workers particularly household service workers (HSWs) against direct-hiring schemes by erring foreign employers online.
POEA Administrator Hans Cacdac said Filipinos should be wary of such employment arrangement as it would involve risks.
“They should not fall for this scheme…since they will be given contracts, which will give them a low pay, no rest day, no vacation, and no recruitment agency to be held accountable,” he said in his Facebook account, Hans Leo J. Cacdac.
The POEA chief added that such recruitment is considered illegal.
“This is a form of human trafficking,” he added.
At the same time, the public was urged to always check with the POEA the job openings being offered overseas to ensure they would not become victims of illegal recruiters.
