MANILA — The country’s climate change commissioner recently said that the country is eyeing for more funds to support its efforts against the effects of climate change.

“What is encouraging is we now have identified fund sources to finance some of our climate programs without getting from our national budget,” Lucille Sering, commissioner of the Climate Change Commission said.

Sering added that the country is planning to tap more grant-based financing for their climate change projects.

She said that several countries have already expressed support in the initiative.

Among the list is Germany, which pledged its openness  in increasing the financial support  to the country.

“We are very appreciative of the grant we received from Germany worth about 15 million euros. That will potentially be increased probably by around 5 million euros depending on the discussions,” Sering told The STAR on the sidelines of the reception for the delegates of the sixth Petersberg Climate Dialogue on Monday.

“We can submit another proposal for the possible addition of 5- to 10- million euros,” she added.

A total of 10 projects worth 41 million euros or about 2 million in peso is supported by Germany as part of its International Climate Initiative in the region.
