MANILA – House of Representatives Deputy Speakers Paolo Ortega V and Jefferson Khonghun, and Lanao del Sur 1st District Rep. Zia Alonto Adiong on Tuesday declared unwavering support for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s call for a justice system anchored in evidence, fairness, and the rule of law in addressing the ongoing controversies surrounding flood control projects.
Marcos on Monday emphasized the critical need for due process and credible evidence over speculation and public outcry, stressing that justice must be pursued with credibility to maintain public confidence.
“We applaud President Marcos for his steadfast commitment to the rule of law,” Ortega said in a statement.
“His insistence on thorough, evidence-based investigations sets a high standard for accountability, especially in tackling issues like flood control mismanagement, ensuring fairness and public trust.”
Khonghun said Marcos’ focus on robust evidence over hasty judgments reinforces the need for disciplined governance.
“This approach is crucial as we address controversies in flood control projects to deliver solutions that genuinely benefit Filipinos,” he said in a separate statement.
Adiong said the President’s call for thorough, evidence-based investigations resonates deeply with the values of justice and accountability that people in Lanao del Sur hold dear, especially in addressing concerns over flood control mismanagement.
“A justice system driven by facts, not noise, ensures that only the guilty are held accountable, protecting the innocent and strengthening public trust in our institutions,” he said in another statement.
Collectively known as the “Young Guns” in the House, the lawmakers emphasized the risks of political manipulation.
“The President’s warning against diversionary tactics reminds us to stay vigilant. By prioritizing evidence-based processes, we can address corruption allegations in flood control projects with clarity and ensure resources protect our communities,” they said.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability in critical infrastructure projects.
