The Manitoba government is investing $900,000 in funding to support local Filipino community organizations, Labour and Immigration Minister Malaya Marcelino announced today.

“Manitoba is home to a vibrant Filipino community that contributes so much to the success of our province,” said Marcelino. “As we celebrate and honour Filipino Heritage Month this June, our government is proud to partner with local organizations to invest in important projects that will support a thriving Filipino community in our province.”

Provincial funding is being provided to Mabuhay District Inc., the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba and the Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba, as they work together to establish a Filipino business, cultural and care sector zone, which will include the development of a personal care home for seniors and a child-care centre.

Each organization will receive $100,000 per year over the next three years to support the development of these projects.

“We’re excited to help support the development of a Filipino economic and cultural hub,” said Marcelino. “By working together with community partners, we’re investing in the long-term success of Filipino Manitobans.”

The business and cultural zone will complement the Manitoba government’s efforts in workforce development and immigration support, added the minister.

Manitoba celebrates Filipino Heritage Month every June.
