The activity was led by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in observance of the National Refugee Day, according to the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
MIAA’s Medical Division provided health service, including physical examinations, electrocardiogram screenings, and blood sugar tests to asylum seekers from Burundi and Pakistan on June 17.
On Friday, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) joined the outreach activity and distributed food packs and hygiene kits to the asylum seekers at Terminals 1 and 3.
“MIAA was proud to take part in the national observance of Refugee Day by extending concrete assistance to those who have sought refuge in our country,” MIAA General Manager Eric Jose Ines said in a news release.
Under Presidential Proclamation No. 265, s. 2023, National Refugee Day is celebrated annually to recognize and strengthen the Philippines’ longstanding humanitarian tradition and its commitment to the protection of refugees.
