ICC prosecutor discloses 2nd set of evidence vs. Duterte

MANILA – The International Criminal Court’s (ICC) Prosecution has sent to the defense team of Rodrigo R. Duterte the second set of evidence in the crimes against humanity case filed against the former president.

The Prosecution, in a four-page document dated May 5, said it disclosed to the Defense 139 items, which included documentary materials cited in the warrant of arrest for Duterte.

Additional details about the items are classified as “confidential.”

ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan said the items, tagged as Pre-Confirmation INCRIM Packages 002, 003 and 004, were disclosed to the defense on April 30, according to a document from the Office of the Prosecutor.

It included one item covering the period when Duterte was mayor of Davao City and 15 items covering the barangay (village) clearance operations in the country when he was president.

Khan’s office turned over the first set of evidence on March 24.

The pre-trial hearing is set on Sept.

23 to confirm Duterte’s charges and determine whether sufficient evidence exist to proceed to a full trial.
