7 provinces placed under Signal no. 1 as ‘Chedeng’ moves closer to E. Luzon

MANILA — At least seven provinces in Luzon are now under public storm warning signal no. 1 as Typhoon ‘Chedeng” continues to move west northwestward closer to Eastern Luzon, according to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Friday.

In its latest weather bulletin, PAGASA said that public storm warning signal no. 1 (winds of 30-60 kph is expected in at least 36 hours) has been hoisted over Isabela, Aurora, Quirino, Quezon including Polillo Island, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur.

These areas will have occasional rains with occasional gusty winds.

Residents in low lying and mountainous areas of provinces under signal no. 1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.

As of 4 p.m. typhoon Chedeng was located at 845 km east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora (14.2°N, 129.7°E) packed with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 19 kph.

The estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within the 150 km radius of the typhoon.

Maintaining its speed and movement, typhoon Chedeng is expected to make a landfall over the coast of Aurora-Isabela area by Sunday morning (April 5), will exit the landmass via Ilocos Sur by Sunday evening (April 5) and will exit Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Monday morning (April 6).

The storm surges and sea surface waves of up to 2 meters are possible over the eastern coast of Aurora, Quezon and Isabela.

Fisher folk are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Bicol Region and Visayas.

PAGASA said that in the next 12 hours, storm signal no. 1 will be possibly hoisted over Cagayan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya and Cordillera Administrative region. (PNA)
