ROME – Pope Francis is in stable condition as he undergoes continued treatment for bronchitis at Rome’s Agostino Gemelli Hospital, the Vatican said on Sunday.

“Pope Francis rested well during the night. His clinical condition is stable, and he continues the prescribed therapeutic diagnostic process,” the Vatican Press Office stated.

The 88-year-old pontiff received the Eucharist and followed Holy Mass on television in the morning, alternating between reading and resting in the afternoon.

His doctors advised him to rest.

Francis has expressed gratitude to healthcare workers in his Angelus address released on Sunday.

“I wish to greet all the artists who have participated [in the Jubilee event]. I would have liked to be among you, but, as you know, I am here at Gemelli Hospital because I still need treatment for my bronchitis,” the Argentine pope said.

On Saturday, the Vatican reported that tests confirmed a respiratory tract infection and noted some improvement in his condition. (ANSA)
