DOE calls on public to set aircon thermostat at 25°C

MANILA – The Department of Energy (DOE) is calling on the public to conserve energy and lower anticipated high demand, through setting aircon thermostats at 25 degrees Celsius.

”The Department is urging the public to turn the thermostat of cooling systems to 25 degrees Celsius particularly during the peak demand hours of 10AM to 2PM,” the DOE said in a statement Saturday.

Energy Secretary Jericho Petilla earlier said that the adjusted temperature might not help cool rooms right away, but pointed out it might be an exception during the summer months.

It may help offset a demand of 100 megawatts (MW) upon all offices within Metro Manila following the suggestion, according to a recent statement from Philippine Independent Power Players Association (PIPPA) President Luis Miguel Aboitiz.

The DOE also ordered its attached agencies to wear casual clothes during the dry season to help bear with the high temperatures.

It hopes that other government offices and the private sector will also adopt the method.
