Japan to hold snap general polls on Oct. 7 as new PM elected

ANKARA – Shigeru Ishiba, Japan’s newly elected ruling party leader and soon-to-be prime minister, has decided to hold a general election on Oct. 27, according to a report by Tokyo-based Kyodo News on Sunday.
Ishiba, who was chosen as the head of the Liberal Democratic Party on Friday, plans to dissolve the lower house — the House of Representatives — for a snap election to seek a fresh public mandate.
