Continuing its legacy of reviving cherished classics from its archives, IKEA reintroduces the Nytillverkad collection, reimagined and refined to cater to contemporary lifestyles. The forthcoming fourth edition pays homage to the vibrant spirit of the ’60s and ’70s, embracing themes of flower power, boldness, and boundless creativity. Set to debut globally in IKEA stores from April 2024, this collection breathes new life into beloved designs, serving as a timeless tribute to eras past.

Drawing inspiration from the enduring allure of floral motifs and an era characterized by optimism, IKEA proudly unveils the latest iteration of Nytillverkad. This installment features refreshed versions of iconic pieces conceived by influential designers such as Gillis Lundgren, Charlotte Rude, Hjördis Olsson-Une, and Göta Trägårdh.

Central to this collection is a nostalgic journey evoking a sense of optimism and unfettered expression. Highlighting Göta Trägårdh’s iconic floral patterns, originally introduced in the early ’70s IKEA Catalogue, the KRANSMALVA and SANDETERNELL textiles emerge as hallmark pieces of the collection. Celebrating creativity, self-expression, and a buoyant outlook on life, Nytillverkad invites individuals to embrace optimism and confidence in their living spaces.

A standout feature of this launch is the ÖNNESTAD armchair, a contemporary reinterpretation of the legendary GOGO. Initially showcased in the 1972 IKEA Catalogue and a mainstay for over a decade, this steel-tube easy chair receives a modern makeover. Designed by Charlotte Rude, the ÖNNESTAD armchair boasts vibrant hues, plush comfort, and reduced environmental impact, owing to its utilization of high-strength steel.

“We aimed to create a chair that blends color, softness, and comfort seamlessly,” explains Charlotte Rude, the visionary behind the ÖNNESTAD armchair.

Incorporating high-strength steel not only enhances durability but also significantly reduces material consumption, exemplifying IKEA’s commitment to sustainability. Håkan Käll, Material and Innovation Developer at IKEA of Sweden, underscores the ecological benefits of this innovation, stating, “By transitioning to high-strength steel, we’ve effectively halved the material usage, resulting in a more eco-conscious production process.”

Beyond the ÖNNESTAD armchair, the Nytillverkad collection features an array of reimagined classics, including the DYKARKLOCKA pendant lampshade, inspired by the timeless TIVOLI design from 1964, and the GARNANÄS coffee table, a contemporary take on the beloved POP table from 1968. Each piece epitomizes IKEA’s dedication to timeless design and sustainable practices.

“We’re thrilled to reintroduce these beloved designs to a new generation of consumers,” expresses Karin Gustavsson, Creative Leader of the Nytillverkad collection. “With its vibrant colors and bold aesthetics, this collection aims to inspire creativity, courage, and positivity in homes worldwide.”

A celebration of vintage aesthetics tailored for modern sensibilities, the Nytillverkad collection promises to captivate enthusiasts of all ages. Set to launch globally in April 2024, this collection embodies IKEA’s enduring commitment to innovation, sustainability, and timeless design.
