Grace Poe: ‘I don’t have to be in the top position to fight corruption’
MANILA – Amidst her rising popularity as a possible candidate for the 2016 presidential elections, Senator Grace Poe said that she does not need to be in the highest seat of the land to fight corruption.
“I don’t have to be in the top position, wherever I am – all of us, wherever we are – we can help in this straight and narrow path,” she said to reporters while attending a ceremony to commemorate the 10th death anniversary of her father, Fernando Poe Jr.
Over the last months, Poe’s popularity ratings have spiked; so much so that the gap between her and Vice President Jejomar Binay – whose credibility has plummeted due to allegations of corruption – has narrowed markedly.
The sharp increase in Poe’s ratings has fueled calls from the citizenry for the senator to run for president in the 2016 polls.
When queried by reporters as to what her father would advise her to do, Poe said : “Siguro sasabihin ng tatay ko sa akin ay maging sinsero sa anumang gagawin ko. Magpakatotoo… Pangalawa, ang desisyon mo ay hindi para sa sarili mo kundi ang ikabubuti ng mas nakararami (My father would probably tell me to be sincere in everything I do. To be true…Secondly, that my decision should not be just for myself, but for the good of the majority.
)”
