Meralco announces lower power rates
MANILA – Consumers in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces will enjoy lower power rates according to Manila Electric Co. (Meralco).
Rates this December would decrease by 19 centavos per kilowatt-hour thanks to an improved power generation.
This means that a consumer who use about 200-kWh of power monthly will get a discount of P38 in his/her electricity bill for the month.
According to Meralco, the reason for this is the lower Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) charges that dropped because of the good operations of the power plants last month.
Power supply in Luzon region improved after the 647-megawatt Unit 1 of the Sual power plant was restored after a monthlong maintenance from October to November.
Aside from this, WESM charges are lower after the adjustments in October were finalized. This includes unit compensation for Malaya and other compensation for May and June 2014. These adjustments amount to 9 centavos decrease for December, said Meralco.
Meanwhile, transmission charges are up by 1.
7-centavor per kWh because of increased ancillary service charges.
